Tennen is a Japanese word meaning “produced or effected by nature,” is the driving force behind their design philosophy—architecture uniting the man-made and natural landscapes.
Ethan Wessel and Sarah Swartz Wessel founded Tennen based on their passion for designing and building. Living in the desert further influences Ethan and Sarah’s design sensibility, through discovering subtle seasonal changes marked by the shifting elements of light.
This relationship of architecture to the landscape, sensitive use of light, juxtaposition of building materials, and expression of design elements are the foundation of Tennen Studio’s aesthetic. This philosophy is woven through each aspect of their design process from concept through construction, giving all projects this specialized level of detail whether it’s a new construction or a remodeling project.

Wendell Burnette Architects' design philosophy is
grounded in listening and distilling the very essence of a
project to create highly specific architecture that is at
once functional and poetic. "Our design approach is to
listen to all aspects of a particular building program and
develop a consensus of approach with client, design
team members, and potential contractors." Through the
integration of this process, Wendell Burnette Architects
delivers architecture that is both uniquely appropriate
and timelessly valuable to the client and/or user.

Recognized the World over as one of the Greatest Architects of our recent times, Mr. Wright has left an enduring legacy of work, especially in Arizona thanks to his pioneering school at Taliesin West. Few structures remain in Arizona designed by Mr. Wright himself. there are just a handful or remaining residences, yet his influence is widely felt. Arizona is fortunate to have may talented students and Fellows of Mr. Wright who have built, and continue to design, buildings in Arizona. (Image courtesy the Frank Lloyd Wight Foundation. Fred Melville Guirey came to Arizona in 1922, so he understood the State and the Climate. Mr. Guirey was well traveled in Arizona and he was responsible for the creation of much of Arizona’s original Highway landscape, Roadside Parks etc. His legacy is huge. We take for granted much of the work that he began in the 1930’s while with the State and even the later Civic and Public works. He was a registered Architect in Arizona since 1935 and he passed away in 1984. “Any architecture worthy of its name should be an honest and intelligent solution to people’s building problems, whatever they are...good design is timeless”

Studio Ma, a partnership between architects Christopher Alt, Dan Hoffman and Christiana Moss, AIA is an award winning, collaborative design studio based in Downtown Phoenix. The philosophy of the Studio is embodied by the concept of ‘Ma’, a Japanese term that acknowledges the dynamic relationship between objects and their surrounding environment. As with their notable institutional clients, including the Heard Museum in Phoenix and Cranbrook Educational Community in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, their residential work finds design excellence within, and from, the requirements of both function and budget. At Studio Ma these demands are a source of inspiration, approached with creativity and rigor.

Thamarit Suchart and Patricia Chen Suchart completed their studies at
the Rhode Island School of Design (Bachelor of Fine Arts and Bachelor of
Architecture 1997) and Harvard University's Graduate School of Design
(Master of Architecture in Urban Design 1999). They established their
studio in Arizona in 2002.“The investigation of design and architectural ideas at Chen + Suchart
Studio, LLC involves a rich process where the tools of drawing and
sketching by hand, model making, rendering, and computer associated
methods are deployed. There exists no ordained methodology at which the
design solution is arrived. Programmatic needs, conditions of the site,
and attention to the client’s desires all serve to inform this process.
Our focus intensifies when we examine the spatial experience of our
work. This representation allows us to thoroughly explore the
architecture as it will be experienced in its built construct. We do not
impose a particular language to a design idea. Rather we allow the
process to inform, and as a result allow our language to reinforce the
inherent ideas latent within every project.” Chen + Suchart Studio, LLC

R.M. Schindler (1887-1953) was born in Vienna, where he studied under architects Otto Wagner and Adolf Loos. Inspired by Frank Lloyd Wright's 1910 Wasmuth portfolio, he came to Chicago in 1914 and began to work for Wright in 1918. Wright sent him to Los Angeles in 1920 to supervise the construction of the Hollyhock House. Although the materials and vocabulary of Schindler's work changed during the span of his career, his principles of design and spatial characteristics were consistent throughout his work. This is true even as his spatial ideas evolved in his late work, including the translucent houses of the mid-1940s to early-1950s.
(—Kathryn Smith, architecture historian and author of Schindler House_ Unlike other Californian architects most of his projects were private houses for clients with limited budgets. Schindler remains one of our favorite Architects here at Jarson & Jarson. www.makcenter.org/MAK_Schindler_House.php

Charles Sumner Greene (1868-1957) and Henry Mather Greene (1870-1954) were brothers born in Brighton, Ohio. After becoming Architects, in 1893, their parents, who had moved to the “little country town” of Pasadena, requested that their sons move out to California and join them.
Soon after their arrival in Pasadena, Charles and Henry set up shop together, and the architecture firm of Greene & Greene was born. Their art would culminate between 1907 and 1909 with the construction of the “ultimate bungalows” — one of which is the Gamble House in Pasadena. www.gamblehouse.org/architects/index.html

Richard Neutra was born in Vienna in 1892, and emigrated to the US in 1929. The architecture of Vienna left a sense of richness and elegance that was to emerge in his mature work, but in entirely new forms. In southern California Neutra developed an especially appropriate regional architecture, adding a new dimension and direction to the regional design systems. Known primarily for a pure and rational architectural style evident in residences such as the 1929 Lovell House and the 1947 Kaufmann House, Neutra was a master of modern design.
